Ayurvedic Doula

What is a doula?
The word doula comes from an ancient Greek word meaning " a women who serves". Today it is used for a specially trained and experienced professional who provide physical and emotional support to expectant families before, during, and after birth.

Why?
Women have been serving each other though childbirth for centuries, and have proven that support from other women has positive effects in the labor process.

* The role of the doula is to never take place of the husband or partner in labor, but to compliment and enhance the experience.

Some of the proven benefits of having a doula:
*A recent Cochran review, revealed a very high number of positive birth outcomes when a doula was present.
*Women are less likely to have pain medication administered.
*Having a doula as part of a birth team decreases the cesarean rate to 50%, the length of labor by 25%, the use of oxytoxin by 40%, and the request for an epidural by 60%.
