The next Full Moon Gathering in January 2012

Greetings Sisters!

For the next full moon "walk", I have set my intentions to create a womens gathering to celebrate and share the joys of being a women!!!

Really, I wanted to do this in December, but with all the holy-daze craze, I realized it would be less stressful for myself and everyone else, if we did this in January.
So, Here it is!!!

*The evening will start with "The Moon Inside You" a documentary, about a taboo that defines the political and so...cial reality in both women and men in a very profound way, and to demystify some of those taboos that we "believe" to be true. It also aims to deconstruct the menstruation phenomenon, and offers not just to women but to men as well, the ability to achieve a greater understanding about a neglected but very important human experience, our period!

www.mooninsideyou.com

*Following the movie we'll open up the circle for any discussions or questions regarding the movie and our moon cycles led by Rose Ghavami ( We will be joining forces this evening with the Age of Aquarius Women's Group that Rose puts together in LA.

www.sacredroseyoga.com

*This is going to be a potluck so please bring something to share with the circle and to keep our energy flowing!

*We'll end the evening with some fun with Cucci!!!
Sex-Positive and Body-Positive Education and Fun, and an opportunity to purchase your next new sex toy!!!!

For more info on Cucci check out:
www.ilovecucci.com

I am really looking forward to this event, especially because I love co-creating with ma' ladies! And also to share this experience with all the other beautiful and inspiring women in my life! I'm really  excited to host this event, and to hold the space for one another as we journey, process,  and discover deeper into what it really means to be a women.

Thank You
I hope to see you all there!

Life

Wow! What a productive day!

I actually had the day off, which is really nice because it is not that common for me these days.

The summer and its warmth drew me outdoors, running about and creating more with community and friends. But now with the new fall season, I find myself wanting to stay warm and create internally, and indoors. With all the shifts and changes going on, the need to really stay grounded is more apparent. And in that place of center, when I am able to hold a solid and stable space for myself and others I feel at my optimal.

To be honest, I was feeling quite tired and fatigued the past couple months, and realized that I've depleted my Ojas ( relates to our immune system and state of overall health and vitatliy according to Yoga and Ayurveda) To replenish weak Ojas, one must REST!!! And one must receive full 8 hours of sleep, maybe even more if the body is yearning for it.

And thats exactly what I did!

I feel myself re-nourished ! I am able to give more to my friends, family, and community. I realize that when we give from an empty cup, we deplete ourselves even more.
Ayurveda states that we must be like a cup that is overflowing with the elixer of life so that we have enough to share with others, and enough to give to ourselves.

So with all this time, and energy today, I made a medicated reproductive ghee ( clarified butter). First I cooked 4 herbs, quadrupling the ingredients( 4 parts Shatavari, 2 parts Donq Quai, 2 parts Ashwagandha, and 1 part Cardomom) with 64 oz of water. I cooked it using a crock pot for about 9 hours, and then once i reduced the water by 3/4th, I added about 16 oz of ghee! Weeeeeeee! Now its still decocting the herbs out of the water, so ill probably let it cook for another couple hours.

*The intention behind this formula is to tonify the reproductive organs. Its heaviness of the oil is great for alleviating vata dosa and the sweet herbs are tonifying and building for the reproductive tissues!

I then made some herbal bath soaks made out of epsom salt and ginger root powder.
This blend is great for aches and pains, to reduce inflammation, and for any congestion or stagnation in the blood. Ginger is Amazing!!!!

I actually made these for an event coming up Dec 10th. where Ill be selling my re-usable moon pads, flax and herbal eye pillows ( very yummy) and herbal bath soaks. I will also be there doing my henna tattoo designs!

Moon Basking Sadhana

Hello Beauties!!!

Have you seen the moon lately? Its a beautiful, silver, waxing, crescent moon. Silver represents clarity, brilliance, and purity. And the waxing moon symbolizes manifestations and growth. Use this time now to see what it is you'd like to manifest for the following  weeks, and prioritize what you need to do to bring that into fruitation!

In light of the Full Moon we will take our monthly Full Moon Hike this time to Griffith Park. Theres a nice hike there that wraps around the mountains for about 45 minutes all together, and overlooks Los Angeles at the very top. Its an easy-moderate hike so don't stress there aren't any grand hills. Just one at the end, and if you don't feel like climbing it, no big deal. You can still see the Concrete Jungle and the brilliant lights from the city from there! Its beautiful! It used to be where I hiked once a week with my sister Kathie and dog Bodhi. I haven't been up there for months, and thought, this is the spot for the next hike. I've been meaning to get out to LA and get some of my LA friends out to join me on the Full Moon Sadhanas, so this will be a perfect combo!

Its happening Oct 10th, 730 pm at Griffith Park, Los Angeles.

If you are interested in carpooling from Long Beach, we will leave from Bluff Park ( Ocean and Junipero) between 600-630. Those of us meeting in LA, we can meet in front of the Greek Amphitheater at 730pm. From there we can drive to the spot that we will hike.

If you are interested please contact me or just meet there!
If you haven't joined us yet on these gathering they are absolutely gorgeous and deeply profound on all levels!
I hold them once a month, on or near the full moon, in a different location each month preferably near water. And we usually arrive at a destination, and hold a short meditation. Sometimes taking silence for the hike, sometimes not. Each time is very different, a unique, special and magical experience! If you can make it, please join us!!!!

*Wear warm clothe, and good walking/hiking shoes.
*Woman only
*No fee required

Upcoming Workshops in September

Kitcheree and Ghee Making Day!

When: Sunday September 18th
Time: 1-3pm
Where: Shelby's House aka La Casa de Maripossa's
Cost: Donation of $3-5 and bring a vegetable to share!

As we journey through the different cycles and seasons of nature, we notice that as one form fades, it spirals and shifts into another. And there is always a period of time that eventually transitions us into that next step. *Just as a caterpillar transforms into a butterfly, it must first rest and fully develop itself before it is ready to bloom into its new world.

Just as nature is constantly changing and shifting, so are we!...

With that said, our beauty-full sun bathing days(pitta season) are slowing transitioning towards autumn (vata season) where leaves change hues and fall from trees. Temperatures will change, our bodies and minds will also change.

According to Ayurveda, these transitional periods are very important as they prepare the being into the next cycle of life.
Seasons shifting from summer to fall, and winter to spring, is considered one of the best times to detox from accumulated wastes, allowing us to move with ease into the new seasons.
One way to prepare, is through our diet!

* I invite you to learn how to make KITCHEREE!!!! ( Detox/Rejuvenating food made of basmati rice, spices used according to your dosa, and mung dhal)

*Great food for cleaning out kidney, colon, and digestive organs when food is not being digested properly, and as general cleanse.

*Gives plenty of nourishment, yet light ( easily digestible) for the body assisting it towards detox, and rest.

*Easy to make!

**We will also be making clarified butter ( GHEE) and using it for our kitcheree!!! ( learn benefits of eating ghee)

**3-5$ donation ( for ingredients), and bring a vegetable to share!

(10 person limit so please RSVP to confirm by emailing me at trailmix2727@yahoo.com.
*If you want to bring someone i havent invited please let me know!

For more info email me please!!!

Look forward to seeing you there!!!

And once again I'm off for another trip to Northern California to continue my studies in Ayurveda and Pancha Karma ( Ayurvedic Detox Therapies) The decision was last minute! But honestly  I couldn't see myself waiting another year to do this course! I felt a strong pull for me to complete this now, and arm myself with more tools to help people out there that NEED these therapies!!!!

I personally have experienced the benefits of Basti ( one type of oleation therapy and/or herbal water decoction  for the colon ( seat of vata) which is administered through an enema bag. The effects of Basti have been profound!! Upon my return I will share more of my personal experiences and update this page with Benefits of Basti and other Pancha Karma Therapies!!

Until then, Join me in my September Workshops that will ease us into the new Fall/Vata Season! One of the best times to start a detox/cleansing program!!!!

New Yoga Classes and Upcoming Workshops in August!

So! There's lots of new things going on, as usual things are constantly changing and evolving. Whats helped me most in life lately is to go with the flow of things, and trust that all is well in what already is. Although sometimes  I feel the need to create changes that will make my life a lot easier, and happier. I think its a good idea to evaulate where we are in life and make the changes that are supporting our intentions and realizations. I believe that this is about that time!

I am so blessed and happy to announce a new class that I will be starting at TrilogyYoga, which is a Donation based Yoga Studio in Long Beach!

*Mondays at 430pm

**The idea of the class was birthed from the inspirations that arose out of the practices from my teachers Jeanne Heileman and Rod Stryker. The theme of Tantra will stream through the Asana, meditation, and pranayama practices.

********Here is a description of the class:

LunaYoga
*Open to All Levels

"When the moon is made steady, the sun can rise" Gheranda Samhita

This class is focused on asana (poses) meditation, pranayama, and tradtitional Hatha Yoga Practices that honor and create balance within the energies of the Sun  (Prana~Life-Fire) and Moon (Chitta-Mind).

It is when we create balance within the mind(calm and steady) and our prana (higher perception) that we begin to access our Agni (Fire). Our Shakti is more powerful than we can imagine! As we begin to access this power, let us prepare the body and mind, so that we may experience light/life to our fullest potential!

Ayurveda

The day couldn't start any better than with a nice walk at the Palos Verdes Beaches and with my greatest companion Bodhi-Sattva. And i can't forget my friend Shan and his little angel Gabriella ( his daughter) as we walked searching for sea animals and collecting rocks, jump roping with seaweed, and sitting around the beach creating our own ocean altar.

Then all this other stuff that was very tiring during the day, so i decided to stay home, work on my ayurvedic studies and make some reproductive ghee tonics!!!

I didnt mention the 5 days of Purva Karma I've been doing, today being the 5th day. Honoring this detox I wanted to keep the night calm and healing.
I have to admit, i feel pretty good, compared to all the other crazy detoxes and fasts I've done in the past, compared to all those,  this feels like a piece of cake! Although i can see how i could totally get sick of eating ghee ( clarified butter) and Kitchadee ( rice/mung bean cooked) every day.

*For those unfamiliar with Purva karma, it is part of an Ayurvedic detox program, which is basically the preparatory techniques taken  (that can last anywhere from 3-21 days -depending on your dosa) preparing the body properly to draw  ama (toxins)  into the Digestive System, eventually eiminating it from the body through the next phase ( Pancha karma). Not only does it include dietary outline :
~teas. of ghee daily, adding on extra tsp each day
~eating kitchadee
~sometimes takra (half yogurt/half water drink with digestive herbs)
which made it feel like i had other options than just kitchadee!

And body therapies such as self abhyangha ayurvedic massage, application of oils, neti pot, nasya, tongue scraping, meditation, and yoga.

Anyhow, i am only doing it for 5 days, and this is my first time doing it. I feel good, like i could keep on going!!!!
But since im not doing the full detox , i am doing a mini purgative tomorrow morn to get some of the gunk out!
I drank this mix called Avipattikar Churna which consists of these herbs mixed together to form a powder:

~trikatu, triphala, cyperus, vidanga, cardomom, cinnamon leaf, cloves, trivit, and raw sugar
(formula can vary slightly)

*Avipattikar works as a laxative, purgative, cholagogue, reduces pitta type problems such as headache, hyper acididty,  heart burn, etc.

Actually, I can hear some gurgling now, so i think its doing it magic...

Also, as part of my intention this eve to observe silence and calm, i decided to make a reproductive ghee tonic just for me!!!

Its got some great herbs to tonify a womans reproductive organs and keep everything flowing and moving downwards where things need to go.

RECIPE
~Shatavari PV-K +(nutritive tonic, demulcent, emmenagogue, rejuvenative)
~Ashawagandha VK-P+  (tonic, rejuvenative, aprodisiac, nervine
~Rose VPK= (alterative, emmenagogue, nervine)
~Cardomom VK-P+ (dipana)

*Added into ghee so that its even more tonifying! Yeah!
I will have to post a picture of the ghee it came out very nice!

Anyways, its getting pretty late and it has been a pretty long day, so I will say adieu for now. Will keep you all posted!

Second event that is going to be ongoing is the Full Moon Sadhanas:

                                                    FULL MOON SADHANAS

When: Saturday August 13th at 7pm
Where: Palos Verdes
Event is FREE and ongoing!!!
Womyn come one, come all!!!!

In Vedic practices and native cultures where the earth is celebrated and revered upon, womyn would gather around the days of the full moon to bathe, walk in the moonlight, and gather to sing, dance or meditate beneath the Luna Llena.

The full moon represents a time of fullness and completion. It gives us the limitless opportunity for womyn to beautify ourselves, exercise our sensuality, and reap the abundance from mother nature.
A...yurveda and other ancient earth bound people recognized that the moon significantly influenced a womyns bio-rythmns and that their minds, bodies, and spirits were intricately connected to her cycles.
When a womyns cycle is in sync with the moon, she remains in harmony with the cycles of nature, her surroundings, and with her Self.

Practicing the moon sadhanas, we honour life and our womanly wellness, recognizing the source of Shakti and nature as one.

***Goddesses! I have been meaning to do this for so long, and when i do, its such delight! Id love for you all to join on these evening hikes whenever you can!! I plan to do this once a month (or as often as i can go ), so i will keep you all posted for locations and carpooling info!
